Welcome!

Mental wellbeing is a state that enables us, or not, to cope with the stresses of daily life, studies, responsibilities, and expectations. Whether we are a student, teacher, or administrator, mental wellbeing determines how successful and happy we are, how we exploit our potential, and contribute to the world around us. It is therefore a critical element of our studies, work, and community life at D-BAUG ETH.

In 2019, VSETH launched a survey on the topic of equal opportunities and mental health, where it turned out that about 40% of the students at ETH show various psychological stress symptoms – the numbers are similar at D-BAUG. For this reason, we established this D-BAUG Mental Wellbeing platform to offer events and support to the D-BAUG community on the topic of mental wellbeing.

Our goal is to raise awareness of the problems and consequences of poor mental wellbeing on all of us – students at Bachelor, Master and Doctoral levels, researchers, faculty and staff. We aim to create an environment to talk openly about mental wellbeing problems at D-BAUG without presumptions, to lower the inhibition threshold of affected people to search for and get help, and ultimately to improve the mental wellbeing at D-BAUG and the ETH Hönggerberg Campus..

We will do this by organizing events at D-BAUG where mental health topics are presented by experts and where a friendly and open atmosphere stimulates discussion. We plan to organize workshops on very common problems to us all, like stress and time management, burnout, rebounding from failure, and many others. We will provide pointers to resources for affected people to help them improve their situation or get professional help. Our hope is that together we can make the ETH Hönggerberg Campus and D-BAUG a safer and more stimulating place to study and work for us all.

We are a contact point at D-BAUG on mental wellbeing. We are not mental health experts but like-minded people who understand the importance of mental wellbeing. For more information and if you wish to contact us please write to baug-mentalwellbeing@ethz.ch, and we will support you in the best way possible. And please come and participate in our events and those of our partner associations.

We are a team from all levels of the department. We consist of representatives of the students (VSETH, AIV & GESO), the association of scientific staff (ASB), and the professors from D-BAUG. Thus, we are broad-based and try to have as many perspectives and approaches as possible regarding mental well-being improvement.
